Absolutely vile the level of negligence and lack of care for their patients at this sad excuse for a hospital. Expect 8 hours + in the ER waiting if you're not literally dying. Nurses are mostly awful and don't even check on you. The doctors are fine but they only bother to staff one so if two people are critical at once, well good luck pal.Pathetic hospital. Do NOT go.
This is one hospital you want to avoid if you're epileptic. I had a Grand-Mal Seizure and was taken to this hospital, back in 2008, while unconscious. This seizure was not self-inflicted as I do not do drugs, drink, or smoke because I know of the risks each has - they can all cause seizures, yes, even smoking has the potential of causing a seizure!!!!When I was taken to this hospital in 2008, an ambulance brought me there after my mom called an ambulance. I was unconscious the entire time I was in the hospital (they had to have two male nurses put me in mom's car when they decided to release me!).. When my mom went to get the car, I had another seizure. I then did something while in the seizure that mom wasn't told about (and I obviously didn't know about) until a week later, because the RNC called me. They told me that I was being charged with assault because I hit a nurse. Mom and I both argued that I had been having seizures and neither of us was aware that this even happened; I had no contact with the police before they called me.Mom called the hospital and offered for the nurse to look at my medical history so she would know I am epileptic; we thought if she did this she would drop the charge. Later that day, we got a call from the hospital: the nurse refused to look at the file.We then asked for a copy of the medical record for that day, to see what was said about the "assault". I picked up a copy of the medical record at my doctor's office - he had to request it in order for me to receive it. He could not believe that a nurse would charge me with assault and refuse to look at my medical history. When I picked up the document, it said "patient struck Walker" and "patient was asked not to hit Walker but hit Walker again". I did not know of anyone with that last name so I decided to find out who this person was - I was informed, by my lawyer (since I had appeared in court yet) that I was allowed to find out who this person was as long as I did not contact her. I was informed by the hospital that there was no nurse working there with that last name and they checked the document - it did indeed say the last name was "Walker".When I went to court, my lawyer, mom, and I finally found out the real name of the nurse that charged me with assault: It is Carol Tracey. Carol never had the last name "Walker" at any point during her life.Thankfully, the judge dismissed the charge but this incident has caused me to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and because of this I refuse to go to this hospital at all, because I fear I might see her again.
This hospital has made me feel worthless on more than one occasion - it's as if they're trying to label me as a drug addict, when I'm not. I tell them what works best for me (non-narcotic or opioid related) yet I will be scorned at and called a liar; this happened today and I have no intention of returning here - we have the worst Emergency Rooms in St. John's - if you have any type of "social difference" you're doomed; that's what happened to me and because of that (I have Asperger's Syndrome) I will never return to this Emergency Room again, I have left feeling so upset today that I doubt I will ever seek help from an emergency room again - I would rather suffer out the problem at home - I already know the response I will get if I go here "go see your family doctor" or "we don't deal with that here" (even if it's not drug related). It's as if they only care about the money; to them, that's all that matters since once they get your MCP Number it doesn't matter what they say to you since all they have to do is bill the government for your visit, thanks to the fact that they now have your MCP Number. The "care" in the Health Care System comes from the money, not the people. And those they do show compassion and care towards are lucky; for the most part, they could care less - they even allowed a nurse to charge a woman with assault after she hit a nurse during a Grand-Mal Seizure! That shows how much "care" there is in our hospital system - the nurse was hoping to get money out of this charge but thankfully she didn't; and the fact that the hospital lied about the name of the nurse on the file is even worse. That shows this is one hospital not to be trusted and people may jump to the hospital's defense but until they have been through something like that (or something as bad as that) they shouldn't be saying that this is the best hospital in town because it isn't. Just think about it: You have a Grand-Mal Seizure, strike a nurse while in a hospital bed, and don't know anything about it until a week later, when the police call your house to inform you that you are charged with assaulting a nurse at a hospital. And then the nurse refuses to look at your file. Also, the hospital has kept the nurse on staff; the nurse did not face any repercussions for her actions. The reason I care so much about this is because I'm good friends with the person that was charged with assaulting the nurse; also, the person charged with assaulting the nurse had no contact with the law before this happened. Thanks to that nurse, the person charged, along with some of her friends and family will have nothing to do with that hospital, unless absolutely necessary (if we are referred there for a test).
Slow and disorganized. Dont bother driving yourself here because there is never any parking available, just take a cab.
Spend 5 days here, couldn't ask for a better group of people, the nurses were excellent and really friendly the doctors were the same and the food service people were always conversational and good for a laugh which you need when laid up for a few days. Nothing but praise from me not one thing to complain about.
